the other side of the bay

This weekend, Terry & I took a trip to the Eastern Shore, a part of Virginia that I had never been to but have admired from a distance my entire life. Driving the 20 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel for the first time was a bit intense, but also exciting.

Friday night, we camped at Kiptopeke State Park. A beautiful park with a shaded campground, clean bathroom, and three different walking paths to the beach. It was nice to see the sunset from the opposite side of the bay. What a change it is!

Saturday, we took the 15 minute drive north to Cape Charles, an adorable little place (pop. 700-900?) with a permanant salty smell to the air & many golf carts riding along the streets. One big reason we made this trip was to visit a friend of ours, Margaret, who lives & works there as a kayak guide. Saturday was the town's annual Tomato Fall Festival, so after walking around awhile we spent a couple hours on the beach, watching the kiteboarders. We met Margaret's friends, had dinner at Kelly's Gingernut Pub (a former remodeled bank), & enjoyed the moon on a porch. Sunday, Margaret had an early kayak tour so Terry & I headed back to the mainland by noon. It's football Sunday too after all. ;) Hope you had a great weekend!

  2. I LOVE the eastern shore, we went this summer by boat and stayed at Bay Creek Marina, were we rented golf carts and rode around town, it's very quaint!
