the other side of the bay

This weekend, Terry & I took a trip to the Eastern Shore, a part of Virginia that I had never been to but have admired from a distance my entire life. Driving the 20 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel for the first time was a bit intense, but also exciting.

Friday night, we camped at Kiptopeke State Park. A beautiful park with a shaded campground, clean bathroom, and three different walking paths to the beach. It was nice to see the sunset from the opposite side of the bay. What a change it is!

Saturday, we took the 15 minute drive north to Cape Charles, an adorable little place (pop. 700-900?) with a permanant salty smell to the air & many golf carts riding along the streets. One big reason we made this trip was to visit a friend of ours, Margaret, who lives & works there as a kayak guide. Saturday was the town's annual Tomato Fall Festival, so after walking around awhile we spent a couple hours on the beach, watching the kiteboarders. We met Margaret's friends, had dinner at Kelly's Gingernut Pub (a former remodeled bank), & enjoyed the moon on a porch. Sunday, Margaret had an early kayak tour so Terry & I headed back to the mainland by noon. It's football Sunday too after all. ;) Hope you had a great weekend!

welcome back

That's for me. Ha! I'm welcoming myself back to the world of blogging.
So it seems that the warmer months aren't a time for me to try to blog. What a nice summer it's been, though.

There are been good changes for me this past month. I started going back to school, taking two classes at our local community college. And :knock on wood: so far I'm enjoying it, even the computer class. It amazes me how advanced Microsoft Word has become. The last time I used it, you could change the font size & color and that was about it. ;)

I've also been learning how to knit (finally!) from a good & very patient friend of mine. When Carolyn showed up to our "learn to knit" gathering, she was wearing all kinds of amazing pieces she has made.

My favorite were the striped socks, I love striped socks! (Sorry for the poor picture quality. I'm still without a camera & using my phone a lot).

Also, last week I started taking a "sample" exercise class through our YMCA. Every Tuesday & Thursday for 6 weeks, there's going to be a different kind of exercise program. The first night we did Zumba. And let me tell you, if you've never done it before you will burn some calories. It's pretty fun, too.

The weather has been cooler & the breezes coming in through the cottage are welcomed. This time of year can only put a smile on my face.
