a birthday celebration

Robie & Shane insisted that they host Terry's birthday gathering & we didn't object. I went over & helped clean, bought supplies, & made some food. Robie made gumbo & our friend, Myra, made chicken satay. They both were a hit! Honestly, just give Terry a fire & a good beer & he's a happy man.

Friends, foosball, drummin', dancing, singing.. a fun night had by all.

happy birthday to my sweet T

I want to thank you..

For being the most positive person I know & who's helped me work on being positive.
For the way you make up little songs, replacing my nickname in the lyrics.
For constantly playing with your beard, making horns & poking me with them.
For the way you make me laugh without even trying.
For the way you get nervous when your picture is taken & stick out your tongue a bit.
For your love of chess & cooking.
For never wasting food.
For being up for anything, anytime.
For wearing a tacky cardigan sweater.
For trying ;)

Without these things & so much more, you would not be the man I love & adore.
Happy birthday!

a taste of spring

Today is sunny & warmer! It's funny how 45 degrees can make you think of spring, but being outside this morning definetly made me get a taste for it. I threw on Carys & Sam's matching green L.L. Bean coats & we spent some much needed time outside, soaking up the warm rays.

Letting the sun beat down on my face, it didn't take long before I felt that energy that my body has been craving for weeks. Rejuvenation!

As you can see, the two had constant smiles on their faces & if you could see me, you'd see that mine matched. ;)

quilting

So on top of still learning to knit (and a 2011 resolution to knit one item), my friend Robie wants us to start quilting. Years ago when I first took up sewing, my grandmomma gave me a few squares that my great aunt quilted. Aren't they beautiful?

I copied the start pattern years ago & this is how it turned out. I did use my machine to make it & not by hand. Is that a faux pas?

However, starting out with simple squares is how I think we're going to start our quilting adventure. I'll keep ya posted.

hibernation & motivation

The first week into 2011 has been a quiet & peaceful one, much needed after the hectic weeks of the holiday season. I've enjoyed nights in with Terry staying warm, making Indian-spiced potato & onion soup, reminiscing 90s music videos on Youtube, & catching up on '09 movies. This is why I love winter.

The first week of 2011 has also brought mad motivation for healthier living. Each morning, there's excitement for it. My body definetly needs somewhat of a cleansing after the month of December. I didn't go super crazy & actually didn't gain any weight but.. a mini detox is a good way to refresh myself.

Wishing you a happy & healthy New Year!
